August “Brother” Francis, Jr., passed away at St. Joseph the Carpenter House Hospice, Saturday, May 27th 2017 following a brave battle with liver cancer. He was born to Benita Puerto and August Francis, Sr. Step-son to Mildred Francis, two sisters preceded him in death, Anita ”Lizzy” Smith and Brenda Crump, survived by two sisters Consuello Puerto Carr and Debra Oliver, brother-in-law to St. Clair Carr, Jr., Melvin Crump, Sr., Kevin Smith,Sr. and Darren Oliver, uncle to Tamica Walker, St. Clair Carr, III, Kevin Smith, Jr., Melvin Crump, Jr., Mia Crump and Breena Crump, other relatives and a host of his Bridge House family and friends. He was a resident of New Orleans, LA and a graduate of St. Augustine High School. He was a delivery driver for Comeaux Furniture Company for four years. August was a very humble, caring and hardworking man with the greatest sense of humor. He would keep you laughing and he did so till the end. He shared a love for animals and service to the community. He was a spiritual man and believed in making a difference by preaching a powerful message of recovery. He changed many lives in doing so. Everyone loved August. He will surely be missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Rita Catholic Church, 2729 Lowerline St., New Orleans, LA 70125 on Friday, June 9th 2017 at 11:00AM.
