Althea Curtis Joubert, beloved wife of fifty-eight years to the late Ernest L. Joubert, III, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2021. She was 98 years old and a native of New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul L. Curtis and Bertha Schaff Curtis, and her devoted half-sister and brother-in-law, Shirley R. and Wilfred Caranets. Althea was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church for fifty years, until Hurricane Katrina precipitated her move to St. Francis of Assisi Church in uptown New Orleans. She was known for supporting many charities and the less fortunate in society. Althea was grateful for her many dear friends who were always there with love and support. She was a member of St. Vincent’s Infant and Maternity Guild, St. Pius X Sodality and Alter Society, Floral Arrangement Committee, Life Member of National Council of Garden Club,
La. Garden Club Federation, President and Charter Member of Lake Terrace Garden Club, President of Floral and Design Study Club, Master Judge of National Council of Flower Show Judges of New Orleans, Member of New Orleans Garden Society, President of New Orleans Council of Garden Club, Inc., Landscape Design Critic of N.O. State Garden Club, Treasurer of New Orleans Civic Beautification Association. Besides her love for gardening, Althea loved music, singing, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a fan of all sports and enjoyed swimming. She had a passion for travel and adventures since she was a child. She thanks her devoted caretakers at Saint Anna’s Nursing Care Unit and Lambeth House. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 10 AM in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119.
