Welcome to the memorial page for

WALTER JAMES DONNELLY

July 18, 1923 ~ November 19, 2017 (age 94)
Walter James Donnelly, born July 18, 1923, died peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at the age of 94. He was the loving and devoted husband of Doris Boos Donnelly for 66 years before her passing in 2015. He was welcomed into Heaven by his wife, Doris and youngest son, Donnie. Walter wanted to be with his beloved on her birthday and he got his wish.
He was the loving father of four sons, Walter II (Karen), Karl (Kathy), Dean (Holly), and the late Don. Paw Paw was the cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren, Joy (Jerry), Christine (John), Allison, Erin, Travis (Vita), Grace (Gary), Dustin (Abby), Adam (Kim), and Emily. He was wonderfully blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jack, Macy, Sam, Ben, Kate, Jill, Don, Allie, and Lynn.
Walter is survived by his brother Edwin Donnelly (Beverly); sisters-in-law Shirley Faler and Beverly Boos; and brother-in-law Jerry Boos (Madonna). He was preceded in death by his parents Michael Arthur Donnelly and Genevieve Fulco Donnelly; sister Helen Donnelly; and brothers Michael “Arthur” Donnelly, Jr. and Jerome Donnelly.
Walter was a resident of Chalmette, Slidell, and most recently Ville Ste. Marie Senior Living Community. He was a devout Catholic and prayer was an important part of his everyday life. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. We will dearly miss his fun-loving nature and playfulness. Bingo at Ville Ste. Marie will never be the same.
The family would like to offer their deep gratitude to his caregivers, Tanya, Cynthia, Jessica, and Nicole and to the staff and residents of Ville Ste. Marie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Walter Donnelly’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 2424 Edenborn Avenue, Suite 660, Metairie, LA 70001.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to celebrate the Funeral Mass on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 12:15 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
