John G. Cockfield, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 23, 2017. Beloved husband for 46 years of the late Therese Larrivee Cockfield, also preceded in death by his parents Lawrence “Walter” Cockfield and Blanche Turegano Cockfield, his brothers Lawrence “Larry”, James “Jimmy”, Ray, and sister Mary Ellen Cockfield Chisholm. He is survived by his two children, Colette Cockfield Swanford and Denise Cockfield Dean, his two grandchildren Brad Swanford and Ryan Dean, and his two great grandchildren Tyler Dean and Preston Swanford. John grew up in New Orleans, graduated from Holy Cross High School and served in the U.S. Army for 4 years after college. Starting out in the carpeting retail industry he expanded and grew his business into a thriving full service decorating business with his wife at his side helping with decorating and being an excellent seamstress for elaborate drapery treatments. There ALWAYS was a good joke on his lips and a hearty laugh after telling it. Helping out anyone in need for any reason day or night was how he lived his life – he truly was an absolute giver and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his services at JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 11:00 am– 1:30 pm followed by a brief service in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel. Interment to follow at Hope Mausoleum.
