Janice O’Neil Giffin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother “Grammy,” and great-grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, peacefully at her home in Metairie, Louisiana surrounded by her children. She was 82. Janice was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and has been a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, for 58 years, and also a resident of Diamondhead, Mississippi, for the last 23 years. She was married to Carl J. Giffin for 54 years before his passing in 2011. She will be forever cherished by her family. Her children: Carl J. “Buddy” Giffin, Jr. (Trish Montelepre), Allison G. Talley (Chuck) and Jenny G. Anderson (Stan). 15 beloved grandchildren: Carl Giffin, III, Angela Guthrie, Kelly Harlan, Melissa Leake, Jamie and Jen Giffin; Charles Richard, Robert, Christie and Lauren Talley; and Emma, Parker, Kate, Quinn and Reid Anderson. Great-grandchildren: Jacob Harlan, Hannah Guthrie, and Carl Giffin, IV, and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Maurice B. O’Neil and Elizabeth Agnes Kralemann. Janice graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School (’53) in the B Division. Janice was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church for 53 years. She was a daily communicant and committed adorer. She loved spending time with her family, and friends. Grammy was the loving heart of the family. On Saturday, September 16, 2017, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon in St. Angela Merici Church, 835 Melody Drive, near Veterans Highway/Bonnabel Boulevard in Metairie. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick #1 following the mass to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to: Women’s New Life Center, or The Jesuits Seminary Fund of the New Orleans Province in loving memory of Janice O’Neil Giffin.
