Geraldine “Gerry” Reuther Hanzo died peacefully at home Jan. 7, 2018, at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Hanzo.
She is survived by four daughters, Wanda H. Clement (Craig), Pamela H. Jolet, Karen H. Martin (Danny) and Laura L. Hanzo; five grandchildren, Ross R. Jolet (Desiree’), Rachel E. Clement, Justin S. Jolet (fiancée, Alayna), Gavin C. Martin and Julia E. Hanzo; a sister, Adrienne R. Lala; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hanzo was preceded in death by her parents, Edward A. Reuther and Marie Bonnecarrere Reuther; sister, Olga R. Darby; and brother, Edward M. Reuther.
Mrs. Hanzo was born Dec. 30, 1928, and lived in New Orleans’ Holy Cross neighborhood for 77 years, relocating to Covington in 2006. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff of Belle Oaks Adult Day Health Center in Ponchatoula for their loving care and support. Expressions of gratitude are also sent to Rayna, the nursing staff and volunteers with Hospice Compassus. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in All Saints’ Mausoleum located in Metairie Cemetery. In place of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
