George “Cap” Daniel Peterson, born September 23, 1942, son of the late
Paul J. Peterson Sr. and Marie Rohli Peterson, entered into eternal rest on
July 13, 2017 at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his brothers:
Paul J. Jr., Edward (Eddie), and Raymond. He is survived by his children:
Daniel (Danny) Peterson, Donna Scarborough (Joey), and Dianne (Dee)
Peterson (Shane); six grandchildren: Jeremy Bailey, Rebecca Broussard (Ronnie), David Scarborough, Marc Niolet (Vivian), Cory Niolet, and Payden Evans; and seven great-grandchildren: Blain, Cailey, Aleeyah,
Rayleigh, Creed, Adalyn, and Tanleigh. He is also survived by two brothers: Eugene (Senator) and Andrew Peterson; two sisters: Marie P.
Meinke Hover (Richard) and Catherine P. Hernandez; a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins; and his beloved dog, Natty.
Born and raised in New Orleans and a longtime resident of Metairie,
George was a 1961 graduate of Holy Cross High School. He was a
devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers.
George’s favorite pastime was cheering on his teams with his close friends, Frank Ostarly and the late A.J. Ostarly, at Roy’s Bar. In earlier
years, he worked for the American Can Company followed by many years
as a Bobcat operator in his brother Eddie’s trucking business. He also
enjoyed 35 years of employment at Bill’s Used Auto Parts.

Following retirement, George enjoyed spending more time with his family
and visiting with friends at the Bucktown Marina. He was an avid reader of
historical non-fiction and enjoyed watching World War II documentaries and Western movies. George never met a stranger. He enjoyed making new friends and creating lasting memories. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday,
July 22, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB
SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be
from 9 A.M. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider
offering a Mass or a memorial donation to the St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
