Alexandra Corry Miles died peacefully at home on June 17 and the age of 70, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Alex was born and raised in New Orleans, spending her childhood living in the French Quarter, and attended St. Martin’s Episcopal School, where she met her husband of 46 years, Bobby Miles in the eighth grade. She was the only child of Brian Corry, who was an architect and artist and Sarah Broman, who was a researcher at the National Institute of Health. Alex was a graduate of Skidmore College, where she led the campus chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, and Loyola Law School. She campaigned tirelessly for Democratic causes, served as a delegate to the 1992 Democratic Convention. She worked in the White House for President Clinton and then in New Orleans as a Presidential appointee to the Small Business Administration. Alex will be remembered for her sharp wit and passion for politics, art, and social justice. She was known for her incredible generosity and never turned away from helping those in need. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; a son, Brooke; and a daughter, Meg. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center or a charity of your choice.
